Standard Chartered Bank has a globally recognised pool of HIV Trainers amongst its staff that are fully trained in HIV/AIDS awareness. These trainers are used throughout the island to train students, work groups, NGO’s and communities. In this field the bank has already earned the Commonwealth Award for “Outstanding work on advocacy and education” regarding HIV/AIDS, “Business Excellence in the Work Place” from the Global Business Coalition of HIV/AIDS and the “Edekman Health AIDS and Employment” Award from the European Union.

Ms. Swarna De Silva has been involved in the field of HIV/AIDS education in Sri Lanka over the past 3 decades. She is currently the Territorial Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking and HIV/AIDs of The Salvation Army, Sri Lanka. The John Keells HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign has engaged the services of Swarna as its key resource person since early 2009. Being the pioneer private sector initiative in Sri Lanka, the John Keells Social Responsibility Foundation’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign has educated over 11,000 persons on HIV/AIDS prevention, myths, and stigma since its launch in July 2005.

National Institute of Labour Studies (NILS)

A government institute functioning under the Ministry of Labour Relations and the Ministry of Manpower. Its Mission is to facilitate tripartite constituents to develop and maintain productive labour relations through education, research, and training.NILS and its predecessor, the Workers Education Division of the Department of Labour have contributed significantly to control AIDS in Sri Lanka with assistance from various agencies including ILO, USAID, the World Bank, and UNFPA by creating a pool of resource persons through Training of Trainers Programmes, conducting training programmes for managers, supervisors, peer leaders, paramedics, and workers as well as training at NILS and in-house, outreach training, organising and participating in exhibitions and conducting quizzes to assessing knowledge on HIV/AIDS.
